WATCH MOVEMENT EPSILON (ε)

Epsilon (without date) and Zeta (with date) are the names of the first NOMOS- automatic calibres, a movement that winds itself by the movement of the wearer's arm. This movement promoted NOMOS Glashütte to a manufactory. The watches, in which these tick, are true wonders. The calibre was designed, developed and manufactured entirely at NOMOS and, just as with the NOMOS hand-wound movement, this "Sunday calibre" is also outfitted with several Glashütter specialities like the famous Glashütter ratchet, three-quarter plate and the famous sunburst decoration on the ratchet and duplex wheel. A particularly heavy and large central rotor can wind the watch in both directions. This ensures that the movement is extremely powerful: just a few motions of the wrist suffice to wind it.
It is fun to watch the rotor and the teeter motion rectifier work through the watch's glass back. Lovely, too, is the duplex wheel as a sliding clutch, which, as a simple but highly efficient springless ratchet, disconnects the hand winding from the automatic winding without the loss of energy. The Glashütter three-quarter plate is practically a given with all of these treasures, when a somewhat hidden beauty. This movement is also equipped with a Triovis fine adjustment, Langeleist perlage and blued flathead screws; in other words: tucked into it is the entire art of Glashütter watch making.
The NOMOS automatic movement is a large movement: its diameter measures 31 millimetres. The balance wheel is very large, for, as the old watchmakers' rule of thumb goes: large movements equal large parts equal greater precision. In the test that was carried out on the first 250 watches of this type before the movement went into serial production, the point was proved: the precision of this robust movement is extremely good, deviations minimal, the results of this calibre close to chronometer.
